Joseph “Joe” Johnson is a have fun but get it done type of guy. In pursuit of a second Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, Johnson already holds a Master’s degree in Counselor Education from Western Michigan University with plans on beginning his Doctoral degree in 2010. Johnson also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from Saginaw Valley State University.
Johnson was born in Milwaukee, WI but has lived in several places during his childhood including Hawaii and New York. He considers Milwaukee, AKA: “Brew City” his hometown because of the family ties.
The former standout college athlete understands the importance of education and mentoring our youth in as many ways as possible. He has worked in K-12 as a counselor through the GEAR UP program since 2006. Johnson is also the Director of Community Relations for Future 4 Teens and a graduate assistant at the Lewis Walker Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnic Relations at WMU. These opportunities give Johnson the opportunity to consistently work with youth and keep up the fight for SOCIAL JUSTICE in AMERICA.
Johnson is also a member of three organizations on Western Michigan University’s campus which include Graduate Students of Color (GSOC), Young Black Males Support Network (YBMSN), Graduate Student Advisory Committee (GSAC), and also several professional organizations which include the International Mentorship Association and the National Black Graduate Student Association. |
