Mary Z. Anderson, Ph.D.

Dr. Anderson is a professor in the Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology at Western Michigan University. She holds a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Illinois and is a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Michigan. A native of central Illinois, Dr. Anderson loves living and working in Southwest Michigan.

Dr. Anderson served in a consultative/supervisory role for the Future 4 Teens program staff from 2009 - 2014. Beginnign January 2015 she will transition to her role as a board of directors member. She regularly supervises clinical work and program development activities for graduate students in the Counseling Psychology programs at WMU, and has a wealth of experience working with teens. Dr. Anderson began her profession​al career as a Youth Advocate/Substance Abuse Specialist at the Community and Family Resource Center in Lafayette, Indiana, and later went on to serve as the Youth Development Coordinator at the Center.

 

She has also provided counseling, career development, and outreach services for young adults through the university counseling centers at Western Michigan University, Illinois State University, and the University of Illinois. In addition to these professional roles, Dr. Anderson has volunteered her time to mentor youth through academic tutoring and church-affiliated youth group activities.
